Consolidated Final Project (4/24/13)

To recap: My senior project to to create a series of models which, while being aesthetically pleasing, also show good use of polygonal modeling practices, which in turn could be used in many situations with little to no  changes to the models themselves. Also, the creatures modeled should fit with each other as a group, being that  they are all very loosely based off of the vague descriptions of animals convinced by Peter V. Brett in his Demon Cycle series.

[Many of the following pictures are taken from turntables of the models]

group photo below

Fire Creature:  This Creature (about 1.5 feet tall) is supposed to resemble a small dog-like animal, however it's teeth and paws are radically different as it is much more oriented towards tearing things up.

This model is obviously a flyer. Making wings not part of it's "front arms" necessitated bigger wing design than originally intended but in the end it fits much better with the rest of the cast. Like every creature I've modeled, it's predatory.

This is a sand creature, highly modeled after a mix between sand lizards and alligators. the barbs on it's back may be fleshed out into longer barbs or thickened to actual spikes.

The Creature you see below you is primarily based off of what something based off of rock would look like. It's big as you can clearly see in the first image, and would be using it's arms much like a gorilla when moving around.

I call this one the Mind. I wanted it to look physically weak, but still bigger than a person, with few features concerning being predatory since it's more of a leader to the previous "drone"  creatures above.

I intend to present these models using a series of turntables as well as camera pans across the models to show off the geometry. Time permitting there will be some posing as well which I believe would benefit my showcasing the creatures greatly.

Update for: 4/15/13
All of these images below should give anyone a pretty good idea of sizes of the variouse creatures, as well as a new look at some of the new, cleaner, geometry.

I took a stab at making ears type things to fill the blank space and re worked more or less everything for the crown of the head down.

The big guy here walks similar to a gorilla or some other comparably big biped, so i had to give him a bit of a stomach reduction so the model didn't fold in on itself  I also re worked the shoulders as well as changed the upper torso.

I deleted probably about 500 - 800 polygons for this guy below and I'm confident that I did it w/ almost no loss to detail, if anything, the arms could probably lose an edge loop or two more.

Tacked on the air beast just for a size reference, it was the only model I did not get to really touch this past week other than brainstorming new wing designs while i was taking a break.

rigs!!

Here's two fully weighted and working rigs,  The third is done w/out skin weighting  completed so don't be surprised if that's up soon.

Wireframes

this is the third addition to the team, his geomoetry isn't quite up to par yet, and he needs more scales... but that's why duplicate is an amazing feature!!

**Note: the legs are in defferent positions because i had been playing with the deformation of the geometry. I was attempting to try a diffenrent method of modeling limbs than the previous two

next up!

I got the rest here's a look at a full formed wind demon!!!

I had never done wings before... probably going to be awhile before i do it again...

so I got this wind demon but it'll be awhile before I get access to the renders I took. the only one I saved was to facebook (hope you appreciate how nicely the geometry stretches!!

This a before and after picture, one was as soon as I finished the head, the other was maybe ten minutes later, still some kinks but not bad for a few hours work!

^That one edge loop by the neck was the bane of my existence for a good while after this was taken^

fire demon!

I present you with an almost complete fire demon. Still need to add a few more Edge loops to throw a rig on it and some more definition.

Poly Count: just above 4,000.

Sorry the mouth is king of slack jaw, I needed room to make the tongue.
